Summary

I love him as my own, but is he mine to keep?

The playground is the last place I thought you would make your move。 It was my Billy’s first day at school。 It was supposed to be a happy one。

But then you turned up。 I remembered you instantly from the hospital wing。 Our babies born on the same day。 Both premature。 Both needing intensive care。

While Billy grew stronger day by day, your baby sadly slipped away。

But now you’re back with one devastating accusation… Billy isn’t my son at all, he’s yours。

And you’ve come to take him away。

There was… a lot going on in this book。 A lot to unpack。 Between a failed friendship, an affair, a woman that pops up and claims your baby is hers。 It was kinda too much。 But-once you figured out the characters and fell into the story line it wasn’t bad。 Like a 2。5-maybe closer to 3 out of 5。 I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my opinion。

A different sort of missing child plot theme where the child was present, yet missing。 The intrigue of the story was in trying to find out who was telling the truth。 A lot of twists and turns along with doubts about paternity made this book suspenseful。 The ending was what made this book worth it。 Didn't expect it at all。 What a simple DNA could prove or disprove, it took the book 350+ pages of words。 All to find out whose child was Billy。 The characters were all silly, lacking in depth。 The wri A different sort of missing child plot theme where the child was present, yet missing。 The intrigue of the story was in trying to find out who was telling the truth。 A lot of twists and turns along with doubts about paternity made this book suspenseful。 The ending was what made this book worth it。 Didn't expect it at all。 What a simple DNA could prove or disprove, it took the book 350+ pages of words。 All to find out whose child was Billy。 The characters were all silly, lacking in depth。 The writing had unnecessary suspense added to it, even there was no need for Ruth to be so jumpy。 A twisted end, but the rest could have been much better。 。。。more

Oh dear, I’m sorry but this was not for me。 I thought the story was silly and just too far-fetched, and it drove me nuts the way Ruth ‘spoke’ her thoughts。 I thought all the characters were ridiculous and I was glad to get to the end of the book。 Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the advanced copy, and I’m sorry I can’t be more positive。

Did not like the format on my Kindle, did not like the "switched at birth" story。 Way too many confusing conversations where you had difficulty figuring out who was saying what。 So much lying and then going back to more lying just made it a horrible hodge podge mess。 Did not like the format on my Kindle, did not like the "switched at birth" story。 Way too many confusing conversations where you had difficulty figuring out who was saying what。 So much lying and then going back to more lying just made it a horrible hodge podge mess。 。。。more

This book was an interesting read, Though at times it felt like there were too many twists in the stories。I was really invested in the safety of Billy and at times there were parts where I couldn’t tell which way it was going to go! This was an enjoyable, quick read perfect for a bit of poolside reading to keep you hooked to the sun lounger! ☀️ Thank you to @hqstories for my copy via NetGalley 😄💜

The storyline of this book captured my interest, as a retired midwife, babies mixed up in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit - how could it even happen? Sadly, for me, the book simply didn’t match up to the appeal of the synopsis for several reasons。 * The style of writing simply lacked flair, hard to be more specific than that but it was flat and somewhat monotone in style。 I felt like I was reading an essay!* The story seemed to in no way ‘suspenseful’ or ‘thrilling’ sadly。 It felt, to me, that a The storyline of this book captured my interest, as a retired midwife, babies mixed up in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit - how could it even happen? I know this is a tough review and I don’t like giving bad reviews but I was given this advanced reader copy and asked to review it honestly and as you can clearly see, this is my honest opinion。 Having said all that I thank the author, the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book。 It just wasn’t for me。 。。。more

TRIGGER WARNING - Child Loss✨So firstly I loved the premises of this book。 The storyline was really intriguing but unfortunately this book was a total miss for me。 Whilst I like story’s that can be unbelievable this one was just a-bit too far。✨I felt like there were a lot of underdeveloped storylines that sort of led nowhere。 Something would happen, I’d get interested and then it would lead into nothing。✨I didn’t really feel in suspense at all。 I felt like the writing style didn’t build any susp TRIGGER WARNING - Child Loss✨So firstly I loved the premises of this book。 The storyline was really intriguing but unfortunately this book was a total miss for me。 Whilst I like story’s that can be unbelievable this one was just a-bit too far。✨I felt like there were a lot of underdeveloped storylines that sort of led nowhere。 Something would happen, I’d get interested and then it would lead into nothing。✨I didn’t really feel in suspense at all。 I felt like the writing style didn’t build any suspense up。 It was sort of monotone for me。 It definitely felt like I was reading a family/friends drama instead。✨The characters also didn’t act like normal people。 Everything they did was either exaggerated or the total opposite。 They just didn’t feel like normal relatable people which added to the far-fetchedness of this book。✨I really don’t enjoy giving bad reviews but I really didn’t enjoy this book unfortunately。✨Thank you to @netgalley and @hqstories for sending me an e-arc in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

My first book by Samantha King and I’ll definitely look out for more。It’s full of twists and turns and just when you think your getting to the truth another twist comes along and changes your opinion。I love a phycological thriller and this one didn’t disappoint。You’ll be questioning everything by the end。

This book sounded very good in theory however in the execution it was a little lack luster。 I found it a little confusing in the beginning because I was just thrown into a whole lot of confusion but there was no build up to it。 It left me with little to compare to on how I should be feeling about the characters meeting。 I feel if there was a little bit more of an explanation on what was going on in the beginning the book would have read a lot smoother。 I also found the plot to be a little bit ju This book sounded very good in theory however in the execution it was a little lack luster。 I found it a little confusing in the beginning because I was just thrown into a whole lot of confusion but there was no build up to it。 It left me with little to compare to on how I should be feeling about the characters meeting。 I feel if there was a little bit more of an explanation on what was going on in the beginning the book would have read a lot smoother。 I also found the plot to be a little bit jumpy and when there is a lot of characters and a deep thriller plot, it really needs to be laid out a little bit more clearly for the reader。 The main concept of the plot however is a woman Ruth gives birth and everything seems to be going smoothly。 It isn't until a few years later when she runs into a strange woman at the park。 This woman is convinced that the baby Ruth has with her is actually hers and Ruth's baby was the one who died not hers。 It wasn't until I really got a bit deeper into the story that I really started to feel connected to the characters。 I can't imagine having to go throughany of this and I really liked the suspense that the author kept the reader in for the whole time。 There was something about the characters and I didn't really feel any depth to any of them and I found parts of this book were very difficult to finish because it just failed to hold my interest。 I did really enjoy the big reveal in the middle it was something that was very well written even though I knew what it was going to be I liked how it was presented。 It wasn't until the ending that I became very much invested again。 The ending was amazing it came completely out of left field and something that I never saw coming。 Great read while slow in parts the parts that were fast made up for that。 Very compelling plot and I'm very glad that I got the chance to check it out。 。。。more

Ruth is taking her son Billy for his first day at school when a woman called Eve appears and claims that he is really her son and she wants him back。 Ruth's immediate response is to take Billy and run home, which is very suspicious itself, does she know the child isn't hers。 As the story develops it transpires that Ruth is hiding secrets from her husband Daniel and there is a very checkered history with their old friends Bea and Finlay。The two stories are interconnected, though in many ways sepa Ruth is taking her son Billy for his first day at school when a woman called Eve appears and claims that he is really her son and she wants him back。 Ruth's immediate response is to take Billy and run home, which is very suspicious itself, does she know the child isn't hers。 As the story develops it transpires that Ruth is hiding secrets from her husband Daniel and there is a very checkered history with their old friends Bea and Finlay。The two stories are interconnected, though in many ways separate, as are the people involved。 At times the plot took us back in time more than stayed in the present and so it felt that present time drags and to be honest the whole story was told over the space of four or five days。My only dislike of the book was how far fetched it was。 Yes these things can happen in reality, but it was the way the characters reacted to them that wasn't very believable。 They either went totally over the top or in most cases, barely reacted like a sane person at all。However, the one word I would use to describe it, is compelling。 I felt compelled to keep reading and find out the truth behind Eve and the truth regarding Bea and Finlay。 So fast paced and easy to read also。The ending was good, but very sad。 I can see why Daniel did what he did, but I can also see how heartbreaking that was for Ruth。Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for the ARC in return for an honest review。 。。。more

Whose child is Billy? Several characters for you to choose from。 This book switches from one premise to another, then back。 Secrets are made, kept, then confessed。 My head was in a spin trying to keep up with all the events。
